Engaging Students in Their High School Experience

Nashua School District has two high schools: Nashua North and Nashua South, with a combined 300 teachers and 4,000 students. These two campuses allow students to travel back and forth to take classes and E-Block, or Enrichment Block, offerings at both locations. E-Block runs daily for 35 minutes for 4,000 students across two schools, taught by a combined 300 staff.

Nashua implemented an E-Block after noticing low student participation in clubs and sports, low student involvement and dropping grades. Many students weren’t able to attend class makeup sessions, which were offered after school.

The E-Block gives students more time for academic help, club meetings and study time. They first tried to use their SIS to manage the flex block, but found it wasn’t designed for nimble, daily scheduling. Nashua implemented MyFlexLearning in 2021 and has been able to increase communication, accountability, and track participation so they can make data-driven decisions.

Students from Nashua’s two high schools attend classes at either school, so MyFlexLearning ensured teachers and students could schedule cross-campus.

Nashua has a two day cycle with a rotation. E-block meets every day, M-F for 35 minutes, and Monday is a “Stay Day,” where students meet with their Advisor and plan out their week using MyFlexLearning.

“We started to see more kids joining clubs, more kids coming to the sports meetings and more kids getting extra help.Because E-Block is in the middle of the day, it became really valuable,” said Donna Latina., Nashua’s System Administrator.

Nashua’s E-Block is offered during the school day, so students can use the time for academics, enrichment, club, and their personal well-being.

“MyFlexLearning is exactly the fit we needed. It is super easy, calendar-based and it saved administration a ton of time,” said Ms. Latina.
