SEL and Extra Help during Flex
North Middlesex Regional High School is a rural, regional school in MA. They launched their flex time in 2019 to give students who couldn’t attend extra help after school an opportunity to get time with their teachers. Since then, it has grown into a valuable opportunity for SEL and enrichment. In addition to traditional flex, AP and Science teachers also use flex time for labs and extra learning opportunities.
North Middlesex has students meet with their Advisors each Friday during WIN to schedule the following week, which allows students and teachers to prepare for the week before it begins. That time is also used for assemblies and administrative time, which reduces interruptions to academic learning time.
North Middlesex Regional High School spans over 80 square miles, has 750 students and 135 staff. They have a 7 day, 6 period rotated schedule. WIN is offered daily M-F for 35 minutes.
